Once again Ernie based his Christmas walk on The Wellington Inn at Ipplepen.

This year the route abandoned the previously favoured Orley Common as being dangerously muddy following the recent heavy rainfalls. Instead we took a 3 1/2 mile walk through Torbryan, past The Old Rectory and on to Wrenwell Cross where we turned right and followed the lanes to return to Ipplepen.

It was a bright sunny day, the temperature was about 12 degrees with no wind, perfect walking weather.

Back at The Wellington Inn we were joined by several members who for various reasons missed the actual walk.

After a really excellent meal, Ernie gave his traditional Xmas speech assisted by Bob and Tim.

Barbie gave us a potted history of the origins of the walking group, relating its early beginnings 18/20 years ago and how the effects of the Foot and Mouth crisis threatened to close the group.

Maureen K took the photos inside the Wellington Inn.

November 25th – Bovey Tracey

On a bright but showery morning following the recent cold spell, Jane led fourteen walkers around the Parke Estate.

Starting from The Dolphin Inn in Bovey Tracey Jane took us up the riverside path to the National Trust offices at Parke. From there we climbed upwards to enjoy fine views over the Bovey Basin, pausing in the bright sunshine to take the customary Group photo.
We continued along the top of the ridge before eventually dropping down to the old railway track which we then followed back to Bovey Tracey, enjoying the glorious autumn colours along the way. Back at the Dolphin Hotel we were joined by Bob, Malcolm and Ernie for an enjoyable meal.

November 11 th Marldon

This walk, a replacement for the advertised Exminster walk, was led by Maureen and Dave.

Bob (of Val & Bob) was on hand with his iPhone to take this photo of the 11 walkers who attended.

The trees were in their full autumn colours as we followed the paths, stopping at bird hides, nesting boxes and then on to the track of the Haytor Granite Tramway with some truly outstanding sections of tramway to be seen. After the walk we took lunch at The Dolphin Hotel in Bovey Tracy.

October 10th – Coleton Fishacre

The recent run of fine weather continued as nine walkers, led by Arthur, enjoyed a wonderful walk from Coleton Fishacre.

From Brownstone car park we first visited the Daymark where a stiff north easterly wind reminded us that we are now well into October.

However once we were off the summit and down the southerly slopes toward the sea we soon warmed up again and had nonstop sunshine for the rest of the walk.

We passed the beach entrance to Coleton Fishacre, where we looked out for a sighting of the peregrine falcons, then continued along the coast path in the direction of Scabbacombe before turning inland back to the cars.

We had lunch in the NT café of Coleton Fishacre.
