31st October 2018 – River Dart & Woodlands – Led by Norma

Eleven of us met at the temporary CP above Noss Marina…
Quite a cool, cloudy day and as we started off it started to rain..
We walked up through the woods to Bridge Road, along to the path that goes down through the woods to the WC. Notice on door : ‘closed’ from November onwards’ (it’s 31st October!!) Hurray, the rain has stopped!
Onwards – over the crossing at Brtannia Halt next to the Higher Ferry.
Whatever time of year, there is always lots of interest walking along between the R. Dart and the railway – we also had the added bonus of the Lydham Manor steam train passing along the track!
After visiting the Kingswear station conveniences, we walked up to The Banjo, followed the path along the edge of Waterhead Creek then up the road to the start of Hoodown Woods.
This higher route back is very attractive with all the Autumn colours, the view down over Kingswear and the stunning views over to Dartmouth and Mill Creek beyond.
A lovely level walk through the woods and back to our cars just in time as it started to rain!
We all enjoyed an excellent lunch and chat again at the Whiterock Beefeater.
