23rd August – Exminster Marshes – Led by Val & Neil

Val writes:-
Eleven walkers set off from the Swans Nest in perfect walking conditions (the weather for August has mostly been appalling) – crossing Exminster Marshes to the tow path opposite Topsham following the canal to Turf Lock.

After a short break the walk continued alongside the Exe estuary , up-over the bridge crossing the railway line to Powderham Church. As luck would have it a couple of visitors had managed to get the church opened up for them to have a look around and invited us in – a real bonus.
Leaving the church we retraced our steps back to Turf Lock –  crossing the field to return through the Nature Reserve.  Along the way we were lucky enough to see lots of bird life including – canada geese, swans, heron, egrets and a “twitcher” hoping to catch a glimpse of some yellow wagtails migrating. Also lots of boating activity.
Lunch was had at the Swans Nest, Exminster.
