February 19th – Castle Drogo & the Teign Gorge

After the fiercest storms of the century we had no wind or rain for this walk with the temperature at about  10 degC.
Setting out from Castle Drogo Jenni & Tony led 13 walkers below the walls of the castle and down into the Teign Gorge.
We crossed over the Iron Bridge to the south side of the river then followed it downstream to Fingle Bridge.
We then made the very strenuous ascent of the Hunter’s Path to return to Castle Drogo for lunch.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a conducted tour of the renovation works of the castle.
The castle is under wraps and all the contents removed or covered up for the duration of the 5 year renovation project.
More details of Castle Drogo and the renovation works can be found at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castle-drogo/
And finally... the robin we spotted when reccie-ing the walk a few weeks ago.
